I have to admit, going to the car show was my idea, which is funny, since it’s my husband, not me, who knows the difference between a Cadillac De Ville and the Cadillac El Dorado. However, I do know what a ‘66 Corvette looks like, because we both agreed that was our favourite in the show, which is saying something, since last year 1,500 cars attended.
We saw the car my husband’s Dad drove, a ‘69 Chevrolet Impala (Super Sport), and the '73 VW van his friend bought, only so he had a place to have nooky with his girlfriend. I had my eye out for the ‘57 Ford Fairlane my Dad taught me how to drive on, but never saw a single one. I remember he asked me to wash it for him one day, and me being a perfectionist set about getting every last spot out, unfortunately the Brillo pad was not the way to go.
Which brings me around to this point, us seniors have a slew of memories bottled up in these old cars, which might explain why most of the people we walked past either had gray or white hair. We looked around, people in general were having a “Good Time.” I think the cars are a way for people to look back, and share a few laughs, sometimes with people they don’t even know.
For those people needing a little more draw than old cars, there was at least three bandshells of live entertainment, plus In and Out Burgers were cooking up a storm, with proceeds going to charity, which is saying something, considering they’re an American company.
All in all we spent about two hours at the Langley Good Times Cruisen Car Show. We walked around 20 blocks altogether, so we made our exercise quota for the day. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend it. It’s a guaranteed fun way of spending a morning or afternoon.
