Evolution of the Emoticon
Combining his appreciation for the superheroes and villains of comic books with his fascination for emoticons and the roles they both play in contemporary society, Maziar creates a highbred graphic art series celebrating both.
He is intrigued how these tiny expressions originally made of punctuation marks, numbers and letters have evolved into digital characters. Now widely used in everyday communication, they convey more comprehensive emotions or express full ideas, and like a superhero or villain, his highbred works embody dynamic characteristics.  Lynn Valley Main Library 1277 Lynn Valley Rd. Trying to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle can be challenging. With school, an abundance of screen time and busy family life, kids are spending less time being active and as a result, many are above a healthy weight. In fact, over the past 25 years, rates of Canadian childhood overweight and obesity have doubled to one in four children.
Helping kids grow up strong and healthy is why the YMCA exists. That?s why we offer MEND, a program that empowers children and families to become fitter and healthier. This free program is fun and interactive and supports 7-13 year old children and their families to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Who can participate?  MEND 7-13 is for children aged 7-13 who are above a healthy weight (body mass index (BMI) of 85 per cent or higher). Calculate your child's BMI with the BMI Calculator for children and youth.
What happens at the MEND program? Parents/caregivers join their children in each session to learn about how to choose healthier foods and spend more time being physically active. Twice-weekly sessions are a mix of family activities where participants learn how small changes can make a big difference. The program also includes:
After 10 weeks, you and your family will be well on your way to a healthier life!

Help us picture a cure for multiple sclerosis! SnapQuest MS is a photo scavenger hunt based in downtown Vancouver. Using a free mobile app, teams of 4-5 people set out on a series of fun, quirky, heartwarming challenges while uploading photos of their progress online. Teams accomplish as many challenges as they can in an action-packed two hours, then re-group for networking and refreshments at a post-event party for fellow SnapQuesters.
THE GOAL
SnapQuest MS is, first and foremost, a fundraising event! Teams must therefore raise a minimum of $750 to participate. Proceeds will support multiple sclerosis (MS) research and vital services for those with MS and their families.
Please visit www.snapquestms.ca, or contact Stephanie Mosher at stephanie.mosher@mssociety.ca or (604) 602-3208.
